Synchronized Takeover

Introduction

This is a very easy to use Synchronized Takeover template.

User experience

A user opens the webpage and sees 930x180 standard banner the placement. On click, the floating stage appears. The Floating stage can offer additional video or other rich media experience. The Floating banner accommodate a link to the predefined landing page. The ad maintains this size until the “Close” button click. The ad expands as many times as the user clicks on the initial standard banner.

Creative assets

The following items are to be delivered by a creative agency:

  • An asset for initial stage banner that could be an image or HTML5 file. The banner can be adjusted to your custom size - just change the width and height of the banner.
  • An HTML5 file for Floating stage file. The Floating Banner works with any amount and type of assets (HTML, video or image).
  • A Wallpaper.
  • Video player needs a MP4/WEBM format videos.
  • A poster for the video, if there will be a video wall (the wall will be black before playing the video if no poster will be provided).
  • Screenshot for floating stage (PNG/JPEG).
  • In case that browser is very old and doesn't support HTML5 the backup image (PNG/JPEG) is required (set in additional assets).
  • Banner assets containing manifest.json file and HTML file zipped together with images, scripts and other material.

NOTE: manifest.json file and HTML file should be in the root directory of the .zip file.

Customizing the banner

The file “index.html” can be adjusted to customize the banner components.

NOTE: In order to use Adform components for HTML, it is necessary to define global preloadQueue array, where you push all the wanted components to preload before script execution and to load Adform.DHTML.js

These are the values that can be changed:

"screenshot" - screenshot url. By default, it uses first additional asset assigned through Additional assets panel;
"alignX" - horizontal screenshot alignment (left/center/right);
"alignY" - vertical screenshot alignment (top/center/bottom)
"offsetX" - horizontal screenshot offset in pixels;
"offsetY" - vertical screenshot offset in pixels;
"direction" - defines screenshot's opening direction (top/right/bottom/left);
"gap" - defines gap between banner side and the opened screenshot in pixels;
"perspective" - animation perspective in pixels;
"rotation" - fully opened screenshot rotation;
"scale" - fully opened screenshot scale;
"clicktag" - banner's / video player's landing page landing page;
"target"- banner's landing page target;
"video" - setting different video parameters;
"sources" - video files;
"poster" - video poster. By default, it uses second additional asset assigned through Additional assets panel.

Manifest.json file

  • Manifest.json file should define the ad dimensions and the HTML file which is used as a banner source.
  • HTML file should include Adform HTML library which enables the banner to receive a clickTAG variable:

Specifications

Audio

  • Available on user initiation only (click). Off by default.
  • Maximum volume level must be reasonable and user friendly.
    -"Mute" button is required.

Video

  • Video duration: 30 seconds max. Replay allowed with user initiation.
  • “Close” and "Full-screen" buttons is required.

How to setup

Creating Rich Media Banner

In order to create a Rich Media ad, navigate to the Banners page, then click the Create button and select Rich Media Ad option from the drop-down menu.

Creating Initial stage Banner

  1. In the Initial Settings step, name your banner, select Category as “Dsiplay” and Format as “Standard”. Select a Banner Batch from the drop-down menu.
  2. When it's done, click the Next button.
  3. In the next step, you are asked to select or upload assets. If you have previously uploaded the assets to the system, click the Select button and choose Banner source, i.e. select HTML File named HTML_Standard. Make sure that the clickTAG is present.
  4. Click the Next button.
  5. Adjust the Settings:
  6. When done, click the Save button in order to see the preview. If everything is fine, click the Submit button.

Creating Floating stage Banner

  1. In the *Initial Settings* step, name your banner, select Category as “Floating” and Format as “Floating Ad”. Select a Banner Batch from the drop-down menu.
  2. When it's done, click the Next button.
  3. In the next step, you are asked to select or upload assets. If you have previously uploaded the assets to the system, click the Select button and choose Banner source, i.e. select HTML File named HTML_Floating_with_video. Make sure that the clickTAG is present.

  4. NOTE: Additional assets should be assigned by default order:
    • Video poster goes as second additional asset;
    • Video files (MP4/WEBM/OGV format) should be assigned below the screenshot and poster assets.

  5. Click the Next button.
  6. Adjust the Settings:
  7. When done, click the Save button in order to see the preview. If everything is fine, click the Submit button.

Creating Synchronized Banner

  1. Finally, create a Synchronized Ad which will be the Synchronized Takeover Ad. When in the Banners page (1), click the Create button and select the Synchronized Ad option from the drop-down menu (2).
  2. When a new page opens, you have to select previously created Standard and Floating banners.
    Do not forget to name the banner by adding the Description.
  3. When done, click the Save button in order to see the preview. If everything is fine, click the Submit button.

Additional info

In order to deliver HTML5 banners fully compliant with the specs, follow the instructions on Producing HTML5 banners in Adform Test and Support Center: http://test.adform.com/testpage/banner-specifications/

The format requires an additional script to be loaded before the tag. In order to do that, navigate to the “Tags” section in the Adform system. Select the needed tag and click the “JavaScriptURLS” button. Paste in the following script URL and tick the “Load before banner” check-box.
